Presa Cañada del Lobo | Glen Wolf Dam

One Saturday afternoon we were wanting to go on an impromptu hike in the area. We were surprised to find that this place, Presa Cañada del Lobo (translated Glen Wolf Dam), is less than 15 minutes from downtown.

A hike in photos is the best way to describe this place. Getting here in your car, you will find the dirt road very bumpy. If you have a low-ride vehicle, it is best to avoid driving to the parking area. The road becomes very rough and the parking area is just a clearing of dirt and rocks. However, a regular sedan will be fine as long as you are driving slow and careful with the potholes.

The hiking was fairly easy and there are enough trails to get a good workout. It also looks like a great place to take a mountain bike and I could tell that people had ridden there. The paths are clear and we found all sorts of surprises along the way.

You may be afraid to go here based on the name of the place. My guess is that there are wolves in the area based on the name, but no one seemed to mind or care. Apparently, they are an endangered species here. A local told me that there are wolves, but they are rarely seen and if they show, they only come out at night. We saw couples walking through the trails and I didn’t see any tracks on the trails so I didn’t feel threatened at all. I wouldn’t be worried about them.

I suppose the best way to describe this place is in photos so here are the photos with captions:
